Nigerians Ignorant of NNPC's Operational Mode, Says GMD

13 March 2014

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on Thursday said that its mode of operations have been largely misunderstood by a good number of Nigerians who are mostly misinformed by people that are equally ignorant of its operations. The NNPC said that such misconception and misunderstanding of its operations have often put it at loggerheads with Nigerians who are quick to misjudge it as a corrupt entity. It noted that it has not been treated fairly in this regards and would want a different view of it's character.

The Group Managing Director of NNPC, Mr. Andrew Yakubu said in response to a question on the integrity of the corporation that was thrown at him at the annual Oloibiri Lecture Series of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) in Abuja that while the NNPC participates in the global business of oil and gas as an entity, it is often heaped with blames by Nigerians whenever anything goes wrong in the industry. Yakubu explained that such disposition on the operations of the NNPC was unhealthy and unnecessary especially in the face of its many operational challenges.
