Kenya: Sh700 Million Avocado Plant

AN AVOCADO processing factory under construction in Kisii county will cost Sh700 million. Lenet Alkan, the investor putting up the facility, said it will be the first of its kind in Kenya. He said it follows European Standards.

Speaking at the Kenya Industrial Estates where he showed Governor James Ongwae materials delivered for the work, Alkan said the factory will process avocado oil, juice and soaps.

Alkan is the director of the Sidney-based Old Land Trade Company. Ongwae said the factory, which is expected to be complete by July, will not only save farmers from exploitation by middle-men but also create jobs for the youth.
