Uganda: Irish Aid Marks 20 Years in Uganda

In a Friday speech, at the start of celebrations to mark St Patrick's day, the Irish Embassy's chargé d'affaires, Dónal Cronin, reaffirmed his country's commitment to supporting Ugandan development projects in health, education, agriculture, peace, justice and rule of law.

Through the European Union, Ireland also helps fund the African Union-backed Amisom peacekeeping mission in Somalia, the training of Somali forces, the reduction of piracy on the Indian Ocean and offers humanitarian assistance. Ireland started its work in Uganda in 1994, with missionary work and NGOs such as Concern and Goal.
