East Africa: GSMA and Mobile Operators Launch Infrastructure Sharing Initiative

The GSM Association and mobile operators from Africa and Middle East have come together in an initiative mean to improve mobile access and affordability for their over 500 million subscribers.

The initiative, aimed to enhance use of network infrastructure to connect the under-served communities across the regions is a follow-up to a high-level meeting held at last month's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona where senior leaders from 7 major mobile operator groups announced a plan to cooperate on network infrastructure sharing initiatives that recognise the profound impact of mobile broadband and Internet services on the citizens of both regions.
