Tanzania: RC Pushes for Payment of Sh335 Million Water Bills

Bukoba — THE Kagera Regional Commissioner, Mr Fabian Massawe, has directed the Bukoba Water Sewerage Authority (BUWASA) to give an ultimatum to all public and private institution to pay their bills amounting 335m/-.

Mr Massawe gave the directive during the launch of the Water Week saying that should they fail to collect the revenue they stand big chances of failing to operate.

"We all know how crucial water services are, and if we do not pay for the services rendered to us, both public and private institutions, then we want to miss the services," he said.

He also called upon councillors in the region to ensure that all water sources are being well taken care of for assured water resources.

Mr Massawe also instructed all executive leaders from village to regional level to go for field work to inspect various projects instead of staying in their offices and working on files and reports.

Giving the status of the unpaid bills, BUWASA Director, Mr Chagaka Kalimbia said household users owed the organisation 121.5m/-, public and private institution 179.3m/-, business places 32.8m/- while industries had 1.5m/-.
