Uganda: Farmers Get Sh75 Million

Kasana-Luweero diocese has donated Shs 75m directly to 12 coffee farmer groups, effectively cutting out middlemen.

Rev Fr Alfred Dumba, the assistant director of Caritas Kasanaensis, the church's development agency, said the money included a coffee huller worth Shs 40m. The 12 groups have formed Katikamu CAPCA Development Farmers Association to benefit from the initiative.

Dumba urged group members to ensure they produced top-quality coffee and avoid harvesting immature beans Kasana-Luweero diocese has also partnered with Caritas Denmark to offer more the farmers support.

Dumba says middlemen go after quick profits without minding about quality.
