WHEN the Executive Secretary of the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC) Education Department was asked to comment on the secret behind the sterling performance of schools owned by the Catholic Church in last year's National Form Four Examinations, he cited high standards in discipline, spiritual and academic matters.
Fr Alphonce Raraiya was quoted by the media as saying that when recruiting both teachers and students, the church scrutinises their background before making a decision to admit them to the schools.
