Tanzania: Woman's Body Found Hanging in the Forest

A woman identified as Halima Waziri (52) a resident of Karangai, Arumeru district, Arusha region has died after being hanged by unknown assailants.

Liberatus Sabas, Arusha's Regional Police Commander said the incident occurred on 17 March at about 6am in Karangai village, Arumeru district.

Commander Sabas said that students who were on their way to school in the morning discovered the body. The students saw the body in the woods and raised an alarm for the neighbours.

He said that after the neighbours saw the body they went to inform the relatives of the deceased whose home is just 200 metres from the scene of the crime.

When the relatives of the deceased arrived at the scene of the crime, they were extremely shocked saying the deceased had no enemies and were alarmed that such a heartless crime could occur in their village.

"After we got information we sent our officers to that area to retrieve the body which had been obviously hanged as shown by marks on the neck although the assailants remain unknown," said Sabas.

He further explained that the Police will do further investigations on this incident and asked all police officers for full cooperation on this case.
