Kenya: Mumias in Court Over Rival's Packs

THE Mumia Sugar Company wants the court to stop a trader from using packaging materials similar to its own. In an application at the High Court through lawyer, Jane Mugambi, Mumias said Option Two Ltd cannot claim that they do not know the Mumias packaging materials.

The case before judge Francis Gikonyo has Mumias Company as the applicant while Option Two is the first defendant (James Mboi and Serah Ndungu). T/A Kanini Haraka Enterprises has been named as the second defendant.

Mugambi said the syndicate is so concealed and detailed that consumers cannot differentiate between genuine Mumias Sugar and the fake ones. She produced the package of Mumias sugar packed in two kilogrammes and that of Option Two in court. The ruling will be delivered on June 28 before the case goes to expert hearing.
