Egypt: New Defence Minister Sworn in, Attends Cabinet Meeting

Cairo — Egypt's newly-appointed Defence Minister Sedki Sobhy attended on Thursday his first cabinet meeting, headed by Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehlab, state television reported.

Sobhy was sworn in as defence minister earlier on Thursday.

Interim President Adli Mansour issued a decree on Wednesday to promote Sobhy to the rank of Colonel General and succeed former Defence Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who announced his resignation and intent to run for presidential elections.
