Kenya: Plans to Market Potatoes

Nyandarua Governor Waithaka Mwangi has said his administration is working with other potato growing counties to add value to the crop.

He said he has discussed laws with leaders from Nakuru, Nyeri, Narok, Meru, Uasin Gishu and Kiambu counties that will ensure potatoes are packaged in a 50kg bag or per kilo.

The governor said although there is a draft law in the Senate to regulate packaging, his administration is also formulating its own policy. The governor made the remarks yesterday when he addressed the county assembly on the performance of his administration over the last year they have been in office. Waithaka said discussions on pyrethrum growing, processing and marketing are underway.
