Ghana Cleft Foundation Saves 1,000 Patients

Kumasi — More than 1,000 children born with cleft deformities have been successfully operated and saved from the disease in the last ten years through the intervention of the Ghana Cleft Foundation. The beneficiary patients, who spread across the length and breadth of the country, underwent successful surgery free of charge, as part of the foundation's annual and periodic outreach programmes across Ghana.

The Ghana Cleft Foundation was established in 2004 by group of medical professionals, who after realizing the cost involved in treatment and lack of access to healthcare, decided to set up the foundation to raise money from individuals and corporate bodies to rescue victims of the diseases. With the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as its Life Patron, the Foundation has apart from wholly financing surgery of patients, also been offering them with counselling, financial and other forms of social support.
