Liberia: Passengers Stranded - Monrovia-Gbarnga Highway Impassable

Gbarnga-Monrovia Highway — Commuters in the Central part of Liberia have been faced with harrowing experience when traffic blockage lasted for days as the Gbarnga-Monrovia road was blocked after a section of the road has become impassable.

The traffic blockage became noticeable on Monday, March 31, 2014, after two trucks fell on a failed portion of the road at Zeanzue close to Gbartala along Gbarnga-Monrovia road. The resultant traffic snarl from the road eventually blocked the highway. Vehicles leaving and coming into Gbarnga got stuck on the failed portion with the traffic stretching several kilometers on both sides of the road. And as the blockade lasted longer, many vehicles while scrambling for space on the clogged road ended up in ditches and gullies on the side of the road while some collided with others.
