South Africa/Zimbabwe: Pauw to Lead Banyana Banyana for the First Time

Newly appointed SASOL Banyana Banyana head coach, Vera Pauw will lead the Senior Women's National Team for the first time since her appointment last month.

Banyana Banyana will take on neighbours Zimbabwe in an international friendly match on Saturday, 12 April 2014 at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto. Kickoff is at 12h30.

The encounter will be used to prepare for the CAF African Women's Championship qualifier against Comoros towards the end of May.

The last time Banyana Banyana faced Zimbabwe in an international friendly was in June last year at Sinaba Stadium in Daveyton. The match ended 1-1.

"I am very happy that we have been able to secure an international friendly match against Zimbabwe as this will be the start of our journey to the African Women's Championship as well as Canada 2015. I look forward to leading the team for the first time infront of the home supporters and I urge everyone in Soweto to come out in numbers to support the team," said Head Coach Vera Pauw.

Thirty two (32) players have been called up for camp which will start in Johannesburg on Sunday, 06 April.

They will have their first training session at Bedfordview FC fields in the afternoon.

Prolific striker Portia Modise, who has been capped 104 for the Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana, makes a welcome return to the squad. Also back in the team is former captain Simphiwe Dludlu who will be looking forward to earning her 50th cap against Zimbabwe after a three-year absence from the national squad.

Eight overseas-based players have been called up, with three new faces - Tsepiso Mokabane, who plays with Andisiwe Mgcoyi at FC Union Zamky in Slovakia; US based striker Ode Fulutudilu and Netherlands based goalkeeper Laura Du Ry.
