Ghana: Security Beefed Up

The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly and the Ghana Police Service have beefed up security in the Tamale metropolis to ensure that the incoming National Delegates Conference of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is held in calm and peaceful atmosphere. Information gathered by The Chronicle indicates that about 1200 police personnel and 100 soldiers would be deployed before, during and after the conference, which starts on Friday.

Apart from the heavy presence of security personnel, The City authorities are also lightening up the whole metropolis, especially the Central Business District and all ceremonial streets with streetlights ahead of the conference, to further boost security in the area for the residents and the thousands of delegates and observers who will visit the metropolis. The Assembly has been replacing all the dead bulbs with new ones and also extending streetlights to areas that did not previously have any. The Mayor of Tamale, Abdul-Rahman Hanan Gundadow told The Chronicle that the City of Tamale was ready to receive all the visitors who would come from the various regions of Ghana and other parts of the world to have a feel of the much talked about hospitality of the people of Tamale.
