Egypt to Offer 60,000 Feddans for Reclamation

Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Ayman Farid Abu-Hadid expressed Egypt's readiness to offer 60,000 feddans for reclamation.

Abu-Hadid's statements came during an annual meeting of the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) which was attended by his counterparts from 21 Arab states, a statement by his ministry said.

Planning and International Cooperation Minister Ashraf el-Arabi was among those who attended the meeting which was held in Tunisia.

On the other hand, Abu-Hadid announced that the new strategy of his ministry targets developing 5.5 million feddans via using sophisticated tools in irrigation system instead of using sprinklers.

This would occur via contribution on the part of the World Bank, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) , JICA and Australian government, as LE2 billion had been allocated for financing the project.
