South Africa: Ekurhuleni Remembers Chris Hani

Pretoria — The City of Ekurhuleni will this morning host the commemoration of the 21st anniversary of the assassination of former SA Communist Party (SACP) leader, Chris Hani, at the Thomas Nkobi Memorial Park in Boksburg.

Hani was assassinated on 10 April 1993 outside his home in Dawn Park by Janusz Waluś and Clive Derby-Lewis.

The City's remembrance programme today will start with a wreath laying ceremony at Hani's gravesite between 10am and 1pm, while the second part will be a memorial lecture at the Boksburg Civic Centre at 5pm.

His family, led by wife Limpho Hani, African National Congress (ANC) Deputy Secretary-General Jesse Duarte, SA Communist Party General Secretary Blade Nzimande, Cosatu and uMkhonto we Sizwe Veterans leadership are expected to attend.
