Kenya: Ruto Slams Kakuzi, Del Monte

DEPUTY President William Ruto has criticised the Kakuzi Ltd and Del Monte fruit growing and processing company for maintaining "colonial-like practices."

He ordered Murang'a county commissioner Kula Hache to ensure the two companies do not infringe on the rights of residents. Ruto who was speaking during a thanks giving ceremony for Chege at Kimorori Primary School on Saturday.

"The management of Kakuzi and Del Monte should be told this is a free country and that they are living in an error that is long gone by. No one needs a pass to access his home, we do not have two governments here" he said.

Ruto was responding to complaints raised by leaders led by Gatanga MP Humphrey Njuguna, his Maragwa counterpart Peter Kamande and county woman representative Sabina Chege.

The leaders said residents are denied access to certain roads by Kakuzi management. They said the firms demand passes from residents to access some roads.
