Kenya: Airtel Hosts MVNOs On Its Network

AIRTEL Kenya has set the ball running in infrastructure sharing by hosting the three Mobile Virtual Network Operators licensed by Communications Authority of Kenya last Friday.

Equity bank's Finserve Africa, Zioncell Kenya and Mobile Pay are all running on Airtel's domant network. "The entry of the MVNOs will stimulate and sustain overall market growth through a new range of innovative products and service propositions (to)... give more choice and value to Kenyans," Airtel's exiting MD Shivan Bhargava said.

CAK directror general Francis Wangusi said on Friday sharing of of passive and active infrastructure infrastructure by mobile network operators would "allow those who are creative to provide various services and also compete in various market segments with established operators".
