Big data is a relative newcomer to development discourse. It has gathered interest quickly, aided by the UN high-level panel's call for a 'data revolution' last June that made big data central to debates over the future of development.
But as well as interest, big data raises many questions - and the occasional puzzled look. Even the bravest admit confusion over how big data differs from, simply, data.
