Nigeria: The Endless Wait for Prepaid Meters

Electricity consumers in the country are expressing frustration over the inability of power distribution companies to ensure that prepaid meters are made available to households across the country, two years after they submitted applications for the meters

"Nobody has deemed it fit to give me the meter I paid for and no one is listening to me at the local electricity distribution company, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and nobody is speaking for me at the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) that issues directives but failed to carry them out, so I have to pay exorbitant charge for power that I don't consume every month for this long now," said Simon Njoku, a frustrated electricity consumer resident in Abuja, Nigeria's capital
