Gambia: Trial of Alleged Con Men Still On Course

The criminal trial of seven accused persons on Tuesday, 15th April, 2014, continued at the High Court in Banjul, presided over by Justice Abdulahi Mikailu, with the state calling the 33rd prosecution witness.

The accused persons: Adeoti Clement, Emmanuel Tokunbo, Afolabi Olayem, Adesida Adesami Samuel, Oladiyo Adeyami Mossumala, Joseph Richard O.E. and Leadway Associates Ltd, are being tried in absentia on two criminal counts of carrying on banking business in The Gambia, without valid licence and economic crimes, contrary to the Laws of The Gambia,2009. The particulars of offence stated that the accused persons between the months of October, 2011 and April, 2012, at Serekunda, collected cash deposit amounting to fifteen million, seven hundred thousand, two hundred and five dalasis from the general public by engaging in an illegal banking activities and operating a forex online trading without licence, an act detrimental to the welfare of the people of The Gambia.
