Gambia: Deputies Bemoan Delays in ID Card Processing 'As Many Still Are Unable to Receive Their ID Cards'

During the National Assembly adjournment debate on Thursday 10th April, 2014, deputies bemoaned delays in the processing of National Identity Cards or ID cards. According to the NAMs, processing in many parts around the country is slow, as many of their people are still unable to receive their ID Cards.

In his arguments, Hon. Omar Tobb, Member for Fulladu West, said delay in ID card processing has become a National problem. According to him, even for him as a National Assembly Member, it was very difficult before he received his ID card, after applying for a long period. He disclosed that there were people in the provinces who could not receive their ID cards since last year. He finally emphasised that the issue needs to be reviewed critically as people have paid their money. Saidou Sabally, the Member for Wuli East, said that even GAMBIS office in Basse does not process ID cards, since everything is done in Banjul.
