Omusati Region underlined their credentials with an impressive 2 - 0 defeat of a tame Hardap in the third match of The Namibian Newspaper Cup.
Omusati got off to a flying start when forward Silas Samuel put them ahead within two minutes of the start. The pacey Samuel latched onto a through ball, sprinted away from the Hardap defenders before rounding goalkeeper Sayed Engelbrecht and slotting the ball into an unguarded net.
Omusati should have been two goals to the good had midfielder Liberius Florian not missed his spot kick, awarded after one of the Hardap defenders was adjudged to have handled in his penalty area.
Despite Engelbrecht diving early and in the opposite direction, Florian skied his effort well over the bar to the left.
Hardap did not have a single shot on target heading into the break, as the dominant Omusati controlled possession and snuffed out their opponents attacks time and again.
Omusati continued to boss the match in the second half, with man of the match Kornelius Kandowa having a particularly impressive time in midfield.
They could have increased through fellow midfielder Ndilipunye Hambunda's stinging effort was spilled by Engelbrecht, who recovered in time to keep the ball from crossing the line.
However, Hardap, who were under the cosh for large periods of the match, almost drew level when winger Lionell Rooi's shot was cleared off the line by defender Martin Tjiwenu.
But Kandowa put the result beyond doubt with a goal ten minutes from time when he he slid in to guide home a Hambunda centre, following a scramble for the ball in the Hardap box.
