Hajara Usman is one of the pioneers of Kannywood, where she is seen mainly as a mother figure. With about 30 years of acting behind her, she speaks on her interest in movies that portray Hausa culture the way it truly is to correct some negative perceptions about the people and advises young women coming into the industry to regard acting as a profession and not an avenue to become wayward. Hajara also expresses concern over how the motivation for acting has gone from the desire to be seen by the world and not fat pay cheques, to the craze by producers to make money at all cost.
