Tunisia: Significant Improvement in Security Situation - Minister of Interior

Tunis — The security situation has significantly improved, Interior Minister Lotfi Ben Jeddou highlighted. Yet, further efforts are needed to tackle the roots of terrorism, he added.

Ben Jeddou was speaking on the sidelines of an honours recognition ceremony held, Friday, on the occasion of the 58th Anniversary of home security forces.

He shed light on the progress made in countering terrorism and hailed the continued efforts expended by the Army and security forces to protect borders.

Such endeavours helped ward off threats, notably in a regional context of tension, he underscored.

The minister placed emphasis on the need to continue the war on terror by means of facing up to "sleeping cells."

The counter-terrorism strategy requires the mobilisation of all stakeholders; it should not only be a security-based approach, Ben Jeddou underscored.
