Liberia: PUL President Speaks of Exclusion

The President of the Press Union of Liberia, Kamara Abdullai Kamara has underscored that free participation of citizens in the democratic process guarantees peace and stability. Speaking at an intellectual forum in Banjor, Montserrado County he challenged Liberian youth to play a major role in building sustainable democracy in the country.

Mr. Kamara observed that there are increasing signs here that people are still bent on excluding others from participating in Liberian affairs. He cited among others the huge increments in registration for political aspirants; Legislative action specifically barring governors at the Central Bank of Liberia from political offices without considering other government cash cows; restricting suddenly government staff from contesting youth posts; political party members getting expelled for disagreeing; and tribal politics ahead of the Special Senatorial Election as not just wrong steps, but they do not support or sustain democracy.
