Somalia: Somali, Amisom Forces Capture Eyn From Al-Shabaab

The Somali National Army and African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) forces captured Eyn village from al-Shabaab militants on Wednesday (April 23rd).

Al-Shabaab abandoned its bases in the village in Hiran region after allied troops and local forces launched an offensive against the militants, Hussein Horow, a government officer in the area, told UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan.

Two al-Shabaab fighters were killed in the attack and an unknown number of others injured, Horow said, adding that Eyn was al-Shabaab's primary base in the area.

He said the government would establish more military bases in the area to maintain security.

Also on Wednesday, al-Shabaab militants attacked a government base in the Bundo Weyn area of Beledweyne, but government forces rebuffed the attack and sustained no casualties.
