Kenya: HRW - Kenyan Police Failed to Investigate 2013 Post-Election Killings in Busia, Bungoma

Kenyan authorities failed to investigate gang attacks on Busia and Bungoma residents after the March 2013 general elections, in which 10 people were killed and more than 150 injured by gangs wielding machetes, clubs and axes, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said in a report released Thursday (April 24th).

"Police utterly failed to effectively investigate the violence in Busia and Bungoma counties," said HRW Deputy Africa Director Leslie Lefkow. "The police did not collect critical evidence, and completely ignored evidence that gangs carried out these crimes during and after the 2013 elections with support from political figures."
