Kenya: Trans Nzoia Sh100 Million Boost for Agriculture

The agriculture docket in Trans Nzoia county will receive more than Sh300 million in the 2014-15 financial year if the proposed budget is implemented.

The county has allocated Sh50 million for fertiliser subsidy. Governor Patrick Khaemba said they have set aside Sh30 million to enhance tomato farming. He was speaking during the presentation of the budget to the public at Kipsoin in Kwanza on Saturday.

Khaemba said the government wants people living in small portions of land to have rabbit keeping project and Sh23 million has been allocatedfor it.

Some Sh17 million will be used to construct a modern slaughterhouse, while Sh11 million will be used for livestock breeding and genetic improvements, and Sh11.8 million for animal disease and pest control. "Some Sh15 million will be used for value addition," Khaemba said.
