Sudan: West Darfur Displaced Reject 'Re-Planning' of Saraf Jidad Camp

29 April 2014

Sirba Locality — The population of the Saraf Jidad camp for the displaced in Sirba locality, West Darfur, have rejected the locality authorities' decision to restructure the camp. The spokesman for the Sirba camps told Radio Dabanga that the Commissioner of the locality, the executive director, engineers, police, and security members visited the camp on Sunday. They told the camp population that the re-planning of the camp would be implemented.

The displaced have to pay a fee of SDG247 ($43) to be allocated a piece of land. The Commissioner warned the camp residents that they would have to pay "for the losses" in case they continue refusing the re-planning.
