Somalia: Gedo Governor Survives Explosion, Al Shabaab Opponent Killed in Mogadishu

Beledhawo — The Governor of Gedo region of southwestern Somalia Mohamed Abdi Kilil Saturday survived an explosion that left two of his bodyguards dead, Garowe Online reports.

According to witnesses, plumes of black smoke could be seen over scene of the blast in Gedo regional district of Beled Hawo. The deputy mayor of Buur Dhuubo district was also targeted with a roadside explosion in Beled Hawo, sources added.

Amid grudges between the paramilitary Group of Ahlu Sunnah Wal Jamea, no group claimed credit for the attacks.

Meanwhile in Mogadishu, Al Shabaab opponent and the former secretary of Banadir regional administration Abdikafi Hilowle Osman was killed in a suicide bombing after an explosive-laden car hit his minivan at KM4 junction.

As has been the case-the Somali militant group, Al Shabaab immediately claimed responsibility for the suicide attack.

Parliamentarians called on National Security Minister Abdikarin Hussein Guled and Interior and Federal Affairs Minister Abdullahi Godah Barre to vacate their posts on the ground of ineffectiveness.
