In November 2011, UNESCO officially designated April 30 as International Jazz Day in order to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe. The day is chaired by Unesco director general Irina Bokova, and legendary jazz pianist and composer Herbie Hancock, who serves as a Unesco ambassador.
The 2nd annual Jazz Day celebration was held on Wednesday night at the Tree House Bar & Restaurant. It brought together more than eight bands on stage, Kenyan jazz enthusiasts and corporate partners in celebrating jazz with the rest of the world.
