Gambia: Trade Unions Urged for Salary Increment

The Gambia has joined the rest of the world on Thursday, 1st May, 2014 to commemorate the International Labour Day otherwise May Day on the theme 'tackling employment challenges through social dialogue' at July 22nd Square in Banjul where trade unions under the umbrella body called for increment of workers' salaries, observing fundamental rights of the employees etc before the various ministries, Trade and Youths and Sports reacted.

Mr. Ebrima Garba Cham, the Secretary General of the Gambia National Trade Union Congress (G.N.T.U.C) in his statement said the day is important because it is a time for renewal and reaffirmation of the adherence to the principles enshrined in the international accords and protocols signed purposely to focus attention on the plight and welfare of workers throughout the world.
