Nigeria: Government Agencies Get August Deadline to Switch to .gov.ng Domain

Lagos — The Nigerian Internet Registration Association of Nigeria (NIRA) said that it has issued August 2014 deadline for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in Nigeria to switch to .gov.ng domain websites.

The association said that it has recorded over 50 per cent increase in the number of registrars on .ng domain registration in 2013, growing from10,000 to 16,000, adding that it targets 250, 000 by the end of 2014. NIRA President, Mrs Mary Nduma, made the disclosure at the 2014 edition of the group's Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Lagos.

According to her, the association was prepared to enforce compliance to the August ultimatum.

She said: "It has been decided at the council that the deadline is August 2014, for all government stakeholders to switch to .gov.ng and NIRA would help to implement it."
