Angola: Menongue/Rio Longa Road Inaugurated

Menongue — Angolan minister of Construction, Waldemar Pires Alexandre, said that with the official opening on Saturday of the Menongue/rio Longa road (84 kilometres) in the southern Cuando Cubango province, the asphalted road connection is close to Cuito Cuanavale.

The road works of the section, which is part of the highway 280, started in August 2008 and was completed in 2013, a road network which starts in Namibe province, passing by the capital of Huila (Lubango) and Cuando Cubango (Menongue) towards Cuito Cuanavale and Mavinga municipalities, ending in the town of Neriquinha in its initial portion.

So far, according to Waldemar Pires Alexandre, it was rehabilitated in the country, over 11 thousands kilometres of roads, and works are underway in over seven thousand kilometres more.
