Western Sahara: Colombian Senate Calls Government to Recognise SADR

Colombia — The Colombian Senate approved a motion demanding the Colombian government to recognise of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and defend the respect for human rights in Western Sahara.

The motion submitted to the President of the Republic of Colombia said, "due to historical reasons and in accordance with the principles of the Colombian State, we support the international legality and peace in Africa, and we believe that it is important to activate bilateral relations with the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic and recognise it and we call on the President to defend the respect for human rights in Western Sahara as requested by the Secretary-General of the United Nations in his last report to the Security Council.
