Nigeria: Committee to Decide On State Involvement in Religion

As delegates of the National Conference resume sitting in Abuja today after one week break induced by the holding of the World Economic Forum (WEF), controversial issues such as the relationship between the state and religion as well as the independence of election management body will take centre stage at committee sessions.

Detaching the state from religious matters has been a source for heated debate between the Muslim and Christian delegates, with the later arguing that the country's constitution had given unequal advantage to the Islamic religion.
