Nigeria: NDA Don Doubts Shekau's Prisoner Swap Offer

Kaduna — Professor David Alabi of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna says Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau may not be sincere in his offer to release the over 200 abducted schoolgirls for detained sect members.

Prof. Alabi said it is not ideal for government to accept the offer immediately because Shekau may not mean exactly what he said in the video. "The image of the country will be at stake if government accepts the offer. The sect may take abduction as a means to an end and more schoolgirls may be kidnapped." He said government can only accept the demand of the insurgents if they agree to lay their arms and give up violence.
