Uganda: VP Applauds Rural Farmers

Vice-President Edward Ssekandi has applauded local organisations for helping farmers add value to their coffee. He particularly commended Hanns R. Neumann foundation, an NGO working in Masaka district, for equipping farmers in Kabonero sub-county with skills to process their coffee.

Ssekandi said this was bound to boost their incomes as well as enable the farmers to retain coffee husks that can be used as manure. The VP made the remarks during the commissioning of Bukule coffee farmers office in Kabonero town, Masaka district.

He commended thefarmers for engaging in organised farming, which enables them to keep records. Ssekandi challenged the farmers to share their skills with other farmers in neighbouring districts sothat ultimately the pride of coffee growing in the south Buganda districts is restored.

He thanked Hanns for giving farmers moisture measuring machines and coffee bean graders worth Shs 10m. Coffee remains Uganda's major foreign exchange earner.
