South Africa: Piggery Upgraded in TPTTP Programme

Four years before the Taking Parliament to the People (TPTTP) programme was staged in in 2010, a group of 13 people from Vrede in the Free State conducted their pig farming business from a small pigsty made of rusty corrugated iron.

But four years since the TPTTP programme, the Vrede-based Pigzone project now has a large, modern piggery. After moving into their new location, the Department of Agriculture bought 400 pigs and feed for the project, and the Pigzone staff raised the pigs until they were ready to be sold in February this year.
