Africa: Is Polio Making a Comeback?

Polio, which was facing eradication only a year ago, seems to be rallying, according to a WHO statement last week.

Heidi Larson of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, United Kingdom, is an anthropologist who leads a team studying public trust in vaccines and the implications for immunisation programmes and policies.

Although the current situation marks a sad reversal from the success seen up until now in tackling polio, she feels that the world is still on track to eradicate the disease by 2018.
