Uganda Moves Ahead With Atomic Energy

The Atomic Energy Council, under the ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, wants the public to use only health facilities that have been licensed to operate radiation machines like x-rays and CT scans as a way of safeguarding health.

Everyday patients are subjected to body scans as doctors carry out all sorts of tests. Uninspected equipment could, however, contain high doses of radiation, which might turn out to be dangerous to the patients. Some of the effects of radiation include burns, nausea, loss of hair, vomiting and even death in extreme cases, depending on the quantity of dose exposed to.
