Somalia is at risk of a renewed famine if a shortfall in donor funds cannot be made up rapidly, UN Humanitarian Co-ordinator for Somalia Philippe Lazzarini said Monday (May 19th) at a press conference in Nairobi.
The United Nations estimates that $933 million is needed to fund humanitarian operations in Somalia, and less than a fifth of that amount has been secured in donor funds. Primary healthcare services will be cut if $60 million cannot be secured in the next two months, according to Lazzarini.
