Nigeria: Lawyers Decry Rights Violations in North East

Taming insecurity occasioned by act of terrorism especially in the North Eastern part of the country dominated discussions as the Nigerian Bar Association NBA ended its quarterly National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja last Friday. LAW EDITOR, Adam Adedimeji reports:

AS ONE of the resolutions reached at the association's National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja last week, the Nigerian Bar Association urged its branches in the North East to document rights violations by security agencies in the region directing those branches in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States to send such reports to the National Secretariat. This, it said, would enable it take action against any culpable agency. The association noted that the fight against terrorism is not only for the government and that where necessary; it would employ public interest litigations.
