South Africa: Cosatu Gauteng Statement On the Intended Retrenchment

Cosatu in Gauteng has noted with serious concern the intention of Telkom to retrench more than 1000 workers from the state owned entity. The decision is the most drunken decision that has been announced by the government entity since the May 7 Election in this country.

The decision to retrench more than 1000 workers flies in the face of of the objectives of the ANC Election Manifesto and its commitment to deal with the high level of unemployment and poverty in the country.
