Tanzania: Singida RC Hailed for Building Modern Hospital

Singida — CHAMA Cha Mapinduzi's (CCM) Secretary General, Mr Abdulrhaman Kinana has hailed Singida Regional Commissioner, Dr Parseko Kone's plan for a modern referral hospital that will serve six regions in the central zone.

Speaking during a visit to the site of the hospital, Mr Kinana promised to support the hospital to get adequate medics to assist government efforts in providing quality services.

"Dr Kone has done commendable work to come up with the plan and even overseeing its implementation, he will leave a legacy that reflects a good and responsible leader in the country," he said.

Briefing on the development of the hospital, Singida Regional Medical Officer, Dr Dorothy Gwajima said plans to construct hospital were hatched in 2008/09.

"The construction of the hospital is a personal plan by Dr Kone after being irritated by chaos associated with the provision of health services to residents of the region when in need of better services," she said, adding that the plan also aimed at avoiding high cost of health services.

Dr Gwajima said that the implementation of the plan is already underway and is facilitated by the government, various stakeholders including USA Outreach International.

Construction of the hospital is also financed by the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). According to Dr Gwajima, buildings such as outpatient department, diagnostic building and cold room have already been completed. "We have also received special health materials and other facilities such as beds and others," she said.

She also noted that the hospital requires health providers, houses to accommodate employees, and enough budget to be able to access medicines. Other required materials include resources to help in completing the construction of the remaining buildings.

The hospital also requires more resources to help purchase modern technology to track the hospital's resources.

In another development, Dr Gwajima said that various plans are underway to enable get the required resources and other health facilities needed to enable the hospital provide health services.

"To ensure better implementation of the plans, Dr Kone has formed a secretariat that will ensure development towards achieving the project," she noted.
