Barawe — Despite overwhelming defeat, Somalia's Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group has carried out new amputation and flogging in Barawe coastal town of southern Somalia on Saturday, Garowe Online reports. In the presence of hundreds of Barawe residents, Al Shabaab firstly cut off the hand of a man whose name could not be identified after being convicted of stealing one million Somali shilling.
Another man who was arraigned in Al Shabaab court for rape received 100 lashes, eyewitnesses said. On Thursday, Al Shabaab executed three men in Bulo Marer town for allegedly spying for Federal Government of Somalia. The rare brutal sentences are widely practiced in Al Shabaab-held areas in central and southern Somalia. Federal government troops alongside African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) peacekeepers dislodged the militant group from their most recent bastions and springboards.
