Nigeria: Unesco Picks FCT, Rivers for Literacy Project

Lagos — The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has chosen the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Rivers State as pilot states for its project on the empowerment of the girls and women in literacy, skills development and use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in Nigeria.

The project Coordinator, Dr. Sufiya Muhammad, while speaking during a courtesy visit to the Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Dame Alice Lawrence-Nemi in Port Harcourt, said that the main objective of the project is to increase literacy rate among girls and women, so as to accelerate and strengthen national efforts in achieving the Education for All goal.
