Tanzania: Local Chess Players Chase World Ratings

TEN local players will be out chasing FADE (World Chess Federation) ratings when Chess Tournament commence at the Dar es Salaam Golden Jubilee Tower in the City today. The four-day first ever rated tournament is organised by Tanzania Chess Association (TCA) in collaboration with Kasparov Chess Foundation-Africa.

TCA General Secretary Nurdin Hassuji told reporter in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday that the tournament will involve ten local players who will battle it out against top FADE rated players from Kenya. He said that the tournament will be graced by five times World Chess Champion Grandmaster Viswanath Anand from India, who visited the country to support the initiative to promote the game.
